There is therefore a winner per category by gender and type (from 3 years old).
Once a year, at the end of the judging season, the Central Inspection takes place. But what exactly does that entail?
Several inspections are held at the CK, but surely the biggest and most important are the Dutch Championships.
All Tinkers that have achieved a 1st premium (youngsters up to 3 years old) and star (geldings and mares from 3 years old) in that year are invited to participate, by means of a real VIT (Very Important Tinker) ticket that will be handed out at the inspection where the 1st premium (star) has been achieved.
During the Dutch Championships, the Tinkers are judged by gender, category and type and a winner is announced. The winner then receives a nice special rosette and cup, the runner-up becomes Reserve Champion and receives a medal.
At the end of the day, all Dutch Champions are allowed back into the ring and the Best Over All (BOA) is chosen. This is then the BEST Tinker of that year!
Mares and geldings from 7 years old may compete in the MODEL judging during the Central Inspection.
Here, the horses are examined by sex and type to see if they are suitable for the coveted MODEL certificate! This stands for an excellent animal that honours the breed.
Requirements to become a MODEL
Best Riding Horse looks at the Tinker or Tinker cross's suitability as a riding horse. Training grade is therefore not decisive in this, although presentation (especially in the form of grooming and friendliness in proposals and riding) does affect the results.
Riding is done in groups of four horses with their riders, based on gender and type. In those 20 minutes, the judges ask for various gaits, transitions, extensions and figures to be ridden.
Participation is possible with any Tinker or crossbreed of 4 years and older. There are no specific requirements for the optoming, so this may be either English or Western or another form. A bit is not a requirement either, but safety is a priority.
A prize will be awarded by type and then a Best Over All (BOA) will be chosen. Crossbreeds do not participate in the BOA.
Stallions may also participate, provided they are well controlled on strange terrain.
in 2025, we are reintroducing the Breeders' Premium.
This prize will be awarded to the breeder of the best HB1 colt and to the breeder of the best HB1 filly of that year present at the CK.
The prize is a whopping €250 per winner!
If your pedigree foal (HB1) competes in the Dutch Championships, you also automatically compete for the Breeders' Premium.
Participation in the Dutch Championships and Best Riding Horse are FREE for members of the NSvT, possible showrunners and/or stables vary per location and can be found on the application form.
For non-members, participation in the NK and Bestgaande is a small fee.
